About Us

What is Meaningful Balance, and how did this amazing practice start?

Christine Wirsen and Selena Work met in 2019 while working together at a local agency offering services for multiple levels of care. The connection between Christine and Selena was instant; their shared ethical values, love for helping to support others, and the need for a safe space where people can feel comfortable to share openly, were topics they would find themselves often discussing. These discussions led them down the path towards a collaboration in opening an amazing outpatient resource for the community. A spark started by a desire to provide the absolute best possible care and...waalaa...Meaningful Balance was created. To them, it is not considered their business, but rather a place for their extended family. Meaningful Balance is the result of Christine and Selena’s shared passion to help others develop meaningful connections and create a sense of balance.

Meaningful Balance strives to build connections with everyone who passes through our door. We are invested in helping others in the community, maintaining a safe, comfortable and confidential environment, and creating Meaningful Balance. Providing autonomy and privacy are top priorities. We take pride in having a place people can come to, and feel they can share openly.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate, and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate. I have provided individual, family, and group therapy throughout Wilmington community agencies over the past 9 years, giving me a wide scope of experience working with teens and adults on mental health and substance use challenges. I very much enjoy working with my clients', meeting them where they are at, and supporting them on their journey towards Meaningful Balance.

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling from ECU, with a concentration in addictive behaviors. I work with a wide range of mental health and addictive behavior related issues. My experience includes working with adults and adolescents in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My job is to listen closely, without judgement, so I can meet you where you are, see things through your eyes, and feel things as you feel them. I’ll work with you to help explore thoughts, feelings, and patterns; identify goals; and develop healthy coping strategies. I look forward to meeting you!
